People move on for many reasons so we are always pleased to welcome new members. Each child requires 3 volunteers one to lead the pony and one to walk each side to encourage the rider and protect their safety.
No prior level of expertise with horses and children is required as all training will be given before a volunteer is asked to take on these responsibilities.
As with all activities involving contact with children a CRB check and a small amount of paper work will be necessary.
All you need is enjoyment in the company of children and ponies so please come and visit us, we will be delighted to see you.
We have two instructors, Anne Dorsey ( am sessions ) and Ray Buckle ( pm sessions)
Sessions take place on Tuesday at Sicklinghall Barn, Sicklinghall, Wetherby LS22 4AH (school term only)
The children come from four local schools with special needs, St Johns Boston Spa ( School for the deaf). Forest School ,Knaresborough, West Oaks, Boston Spa and Springwater Harrogate.
Rory is our RDA Highland Pony, who has been owned by the group for 25 years.
He takes part in Stockeld Park morning session each week and over the years has done musical rides, demonstrations and carriage driving. He is now 29 years old and has recently retired from carriage driving but still does his Tuesday session.
We have five privately owned ponies that help with the morning session and in addition we hire six ponies from a local riding school for the afternoon session.
Currently we have been having difficulty with providing enough ponies for these sessions, so if anyone can help with this please contact Pam or Francis Hammett.
